Rye whiskey is at the heart of American whiskey tradition and heritage, with small rye distilleries found across the country in the late 1600s, when rye was a grain praised for its hardiness and blight resistance. By the 1800s rye whiskey was America’s number one spirit with only Prohibition able to break its popularity, followed by bourbon being boosted by corn subsidies giving it a cost advantage.

Thankfully rye is back, with brands such as Michter’s, Maker’s Mark, Woodford Reserve, Jack Daniel’s and Wild Turkey all sharing rye whiskey in their range, and we are proud to be able to share this fantastic example of rye whiskey, aged to delicious whiskey perfection. 

With only 61 bottles available this is truly a small batch, single barrel rye whiskey, which has been bottled at cask strength.

Whilst this whiskey is delicious neat, it also makes a mean rye old fashioned, great on a warm summer day:

Ingredients

  • 6cl Americana Single Barrel Rye Whiskey
  • 1cl Sugar Syrup 
  • 3 dashes Angostura Bitters (add more to taste)
  • Orange Peel (at least the size of a fifty pence piece)
  • 1 Maraschino Cherry as garnish
  • Ice Cubes

  • Old Fashioned Glass

Method

  • In your glass add the sugar and bitters, half fill with ice and stir. Squeeze the orange peel over the glass to release its oils, pour in the whiskey and fill the glass with ice. Stir well and add the cherry and orange peel to garnish. Then sit back, relax and enjoy.
